Saturday morning peregrine watch

I’m feeling quite guilty at the moment seen as its been so long since I’ve posted anything here on my blog. Unfortunately I’ve been very busy with school work and have my first exam in exactly three weeks time so things aren’t going to be quietening down for quite some time. As everyone keeps drilling into my head – exams come first!

However I have been getting out onto my patch more than normal as it’s a superb way of escaping all the pressure of school, revision and upcoming exams. It really does help me and I found this out for the first time this time last year when I was taking exams. Something else I remember from last year is that it’s not forever and the free time soon follows! Already I have quite a few exciting things planned to fill up my exam free study leave and my summer break.

Keeping to a strict timetable has been really important too so I don’t get off track too much and spend an equal amount of time studying for all of my exams. Due to this I’m always staying aware of the time and trying to stack up as much of it as possible to do some extra revision. Therefore taking a trip down my local city centre to get more boring things like card for revision notes, highlighters, paper (etc) is mixed with taking a break and doing something I really enjoy, going to watch the cities peregrine falcons.

If you follow me on Twitter or have read some of my previous posts, you’ll know that I’ve been observing these birds for over a year now and at this time of the year they are particularly active. As far as I’m aware the pair have nested at the cathedral for three years now and are back again this year. One way they make their presence known is through their vocalness which echoes across the town and gets lots of heads turning.

Almost every time I go down to the cathedral they put on a show. Whether that’s them gliding just metres above my head, calling, tearing away strings of a pigeon or even catching their next meal. The city slickers are a delight to see.

So much so I want to do what I can to share this with as many people as I can through making them aware that they’re there and why they’re so fantastic! I’ve had the idea of running a peregrine watch morning to try and achieve this since I first discovered the birds here at Lichfield Cathedral, and this Saturday will be the first one.
